Dear Congressman Name,

I am writing to you in regards to the following USCIS application:

Application Type: Adjustment of Status to Permanent Resident (I-485)
                Applicant: Fanny S. Meyer
Petitioner: Jason M. Meyer (husband and U.S. Citizen)
                Receipt Number: *******************

I would like to ask for your assistance in expediting this application because the processing period has extended beyond the published timeframe. Fanny and I are now experiencing hardship because of the delay.

USCIS received our application on December 2nd, 2011, and was transferred to the California Service Center on December 22nd “in order to speed up processing.” On February 29th, 2012, Fanny’s K-1 Visa (fiancée visa, valid for 180 days) expired. After waiting more than 6 months for her permanent residence application, I contacted the USCIS National Costumer Service Center on June 19th (inquiry number T1B1711202265LOU). The USCIS clerk informed me that our application was currently in Louisville, KY, and that the Louisville field office requires 4 months to process I-485 applications. Based on this, our application should have been processed by April 2nd, 83 days ago.

This delay has adversely affected Fanny and I because without her permanent resident status she cannot complete her application to nursing school. Fanny intended to begin nursing school as early as January 2012 but due to delayed processing of her I-485 she could not start in the spring or summer semesters. She is highly motived to begin her studies fall 2012, however, she needs a legal visa or permanent resident status to be admitted to a college or university in Kentucky and to be eligible for financial aid. In addition, she is unable to leave the country to visit her family in Brazil without a visa of green card to use on her return. We would like to ask you to contact USCIS and urge them to complete the processing of our application as soon as possible. We need to obtain the green card by July 20th in order for Fanny to be eligible to start classes in the fall. Thanks very much for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,

Signature
